ESA (Education Savings Accounts)

ESA (Education Savings Accounts)
St. Paul's is a fully accredited school. As such we are eligible to receive ESA funds. ESA funds are available to all Kindergarten students and students transferring from a public school. This year ESA funds are also available to current families at or below 400% of the Federal Poverty Level.
Iowa ESAs and Financial Aid
The application window for ESAs for the 2024-25 school year will be April 16—June 30.
Iowa families who qualified for an ESA for this school year will automatically qualify for the 2024-2025 school year. But you will still need to submit an application. Iowa families that were not eligible for an ESA this year or did not apply last year will be able to apply this year for the 2024-2025 school year. This year the financial eligibility requirement increases to 400% of the Federal Poverty Level. The chart below shows the income guidelines for the 2024-2025 school year.
Educational Savings Account 2024-25 Income Qualifications
Family SizeAdjusted Gross Income 400% FPL
2$60,240
3$81,760
4$103,280
5$124,800
6$146,320

Again, this year all Iowa students entering Kindergarten or transferring from a public school will automatically be eligible for an ESA account regardless of income. For more details contact the school office (712-258-6325). Once the application window opens please feel free to contact Pam Whightsil if you would like assistance completing the application process or if you have any questions.
Iowa families who do not qualify for an ESA account may still be eligible to receive an ILSTO scholarship. Applications for ILSTO scholarships will be sent home the beginning of March. This year the income guidelines will increase to 500% of the Federal Poverty Level (refer to the chart included with the ILSTO letter when it is sent home). ILSTO applications must be postmarked by May 1, 2024. If you have any questions contact Pam Whightsil at 712-258-6325.
Financial assistance for Iowa preschoolers is available through the Iowa Department of /health and Human Services (Child Care Assistance | Health & Human Services (iowa.gov) ). Check the website to determine if your family is eligible. At this time, we still anticipate that the SHIP scholarship program will be in place. Applications for SHIP scholarships will be available at the beginning of next school year.
***St. Paul’s Board of Education also has scholarship money available upon request. Currently all requests are handled on a case-by-case basis. Please keep in mind that to receive a St. Paul’s scholarship you must prove that you have applied for all other scholarship possibilities (ESA and ILSTO for grades K-5 and HHS and SHIP for preschool).
ILSTO (Iowa Lutheran School Tuition Organization)
ILSTO is a tuition assistance organization that assists Iowa families with tuition costs so that their children may attend a Lutheran School. If your family income is below 500% of the Federal Poverty Level, you may be eligible for help paying your tuition to St. Paul's Lutheran School.
